Anthony’s Pasta Bar: A Guru Review
After hearing all kinds of stories about Anthony’s Pasta Bar in Hanover Square, I figured it was about time the Guru paid a visit. It was around 7:00 p.m. midweek when I finally went to the small, modern and welcoming restaurant. Hanover Square often feels so nondescript, but the black awning with “Anthony’s” scrawled in big white letters gives the spot character. Anthony’s was fairly busy–the perfect time to stop in for a review.

I’ve been stuck on concerts a bit lately but here’s something for the foodies. This event is somewhat similar to SavorSyracuse, which you can read about here, but coming up on Friday, May 18th at 6:00 p.m. the Wegman’s-hosted Taste of Success kicks off featuring over 125 international and New York State wines, the finest in craft beer as well as gourmet hors d’oeuvres selected and prepared by Wegmans Regional Executive Chef Bob Langkammerer and his team.

I’ve been meaning to start covering the ways you can help those in need in the Syracuse community, so here’s something worth checking out. There are several great organizations in ‘Cuse, but the Food Bank of Central New York is among the most important of them. Last year the Food Bank distributed 9,625,147 meals–26,000+ per day–in eleven counties. Doing this much to fight food insecurity obviously comes with high costs, so attend SavorSyracuse on Thursday, April 26th to help them out!

As I’ve found since I started reviewing restaurants, it isn’t often that every aspect of a dining experience comes together to create something special. You often find excellent food in hole in the wall type places that haven’t been redecorated since the 70s, while some high-end, modern joints may leave you disappointed. There are very few constants in the world of restaurants, but I like to look at the entire experience when it comes to providing thoughtful reviews. This brings us to The Sherwood Inn in Skaneateles.
Read MoreValentine’s Day: A Guru and SyracuseFirst List.
It feels like every Valentine’s day is limited to doing a few routine things–flowers, chocolate, maybe out to dinner. But The Guru and SyracuseFirst are trying to change this. Here’s our list of 10 great things to do with your valentine this year! Some are brief suggestions, while others contain entire evening plans. I’ve designated each as either SyracuseFirst or The Guru. Take a look!
Read More40 Below: New Year’s Eve Party with an Open Bar!
I’ll be compiling a bunch of fun ways to ring in the new year in Syracuse this New Year’s Eve but wanted to do a quick feature on one of the bigger, all-inclusive events. 40 Below, the local organization dedicated to keeping young professionals in Syracuse by promoting local business, providing networking opportunities, educating and hosting events is putting on the perfect (and affordable) New Year’s Eve party at The Landmark Theatre.

Coming up very soon on Monday, November 21st is SyracuseFirst’s Buy Local Bash. It’s been widely publicized but I thought I’d chime in on what it’s actually about. I’ve written about SyracuseFirst’s mission to encourage reinvestment in the Syracuse community by promoting local businesses but the Buy Local Bash is a very tangible, real world example of what the organization can do. It’s great to have a guiding ideology but action is key–SyracuseFirst has both covered.

Although I’ve never been to the Pride of New York Harvest Fest, it promises to be a great time for all CNY foodies and local food fans. This year you’ll get a chance to discover wines from over twenty New York State wineries and an even longer list of local foods. You’ll find salsa, beef jerky, pasta sauce, locally-roasted coffee, local cheeses, a ton of organic selections, sweets like cookies and fudge as well as many local staples.
