The Westcott Theater has been bringing so many awesome shows to Syracuse lately so I figured I’d include my top 3 picks for the next week. Here you’ll find a quick primer on the three acts as well as all the info you need to decide, listen and purchase tickets. First up is psychedelic shaman-trance called Shpongle, Russian-American rockabilly with Red Elvises and then Brooklyn-based indie-dance band Rubblebucket. Running until Saturday, May 12th, Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts presents the iconic Shakespearean comedy As You Like It. The play is directed by SU Drama chair Ralph Zito and features SU Drama students in its roles. The play is also super affordable starting at just $16. It’s a way to support the future stars of theatre. For audiences it’s entertainment, but for drama students this is an opportunity to further hone their acting skills. If you love theatre you should definitely check it out!

One of the foremost innovators of electro-house music, Laidback Luke is throwing an almost sold out show at The Westcott on Sunday, April 15th. I’m not going to try to convince you if you aren’t a fan of electro house. I’ll be the first to admit that while the genre is becoming mainstream in a big way, it’s not for everyone. What you should know is that Laidback Luke is absolutely huge in his genre and has made a career out of remixing elements of mainstream pop and producing a crossover that is more electro-house than pop.

There’s quite an impressive list of shows coming up at The Westcott Theater, but I was super excited when I heard that DJ Shadow will perform on Saturday, March 31st at 9:00 p.m. The concert was announced today (Tuesday, March 20th) and tickets just went on sale. Devotees of the Westcott Theater are no strangers to hugely famous DJs and electronic music, but DJ Shadow is on another level entirely. It’s not often that a veteran like Shadow hits ‘Cuse so I just had to suggest you check it out!

Recess Coffee House & Roastery, a very cool spot in ‘Cuse just off Westcott Street is on the brink of celebrating their 5th year in business and is throwing a huge, Alto Cinco-catered party featuring seven bands to mark the occasion. The event kicks off at 6:00 p.m. this Friday, December 23rd and won’t stop rocking until 1:00 a.m. Spark Contemporary Art Space and Badlands (1005-1007 Fayette Street) is hosting the party and based on the information I’ve already provided, sounds like one hell of a night.
