Local Theatre: VPA Drama’s As You Like It

Running until Saturday, May 12th, Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts presents the iconic Shakespearean comedy As You Like It. The play is directed by SU Drama chair Ralph Zito and features SU Drama students in its roles. The play is also super affordable starting at just $16. It’s a way to support the future stars of theatre. For audiences it’s entertainment, but for drama students this is an opportunity to further hone their acting skills. If you love theatre you should definitely check it out!

Agenda 12/16: Joe Driscoll at King of Clubs

One of my favorite low-key bars in Armory Square, King of Clubs is hosting a concert featuring local rapper and multi-talented musician Joe Driscoll. He will perform his signature style of hip-hop, which borders on too many genres to even describe. I saw him for the first time last week at Empire Brewing Company and the bar was packed for his show.

Emilio Sanchez: No Way Home at SUArt Galleries.

Because it’s a bit of a slow week event-wise in Syracuse I’ve decided to do another art related piece. Starting December 1st until March 18th, head to the SUArt Galleries to see the amazing, minimal work of Cuban artist Emilio Sanchez. He’s an extremely well-known artist who spent his career creating beautiful, vivid and occasionally abstract work featuring buildings, houses and other structures. The paintings are all similar in that they have strong, defined lines and a delightful color palette.

Syracuse Opera: 9 Operas in 90 Minutes

Opera is one of those things that people tend to judge based on preconceived notions, many of which were developed without having ever set foot in a single performance.  The Syracuse Opera is always coming up with unique ways to shatter these perceptions and is doing something very cool with their featured 9 Operas in 90 Minutes.

Guru Reminder: Last Weekend to get Medieval.

Check out the Sterling Renaissance Festival this weekend for some steins of ale and ridiculously large turkey legs. It will be your last chance this year—the festival ends this Sunday at 7:00 p.m.
