Famous Artists Theatre Presents: Young Frankenstein
Syracuse’s own Famous Artists Broadway Theatre recently released it’s 2012-2013 season featuring shows like Jersey Boys, The Adams Family and others but coming up very soon is Mel Brooks’ comedy/musical Young Frankenstein. There are three performances coming up including Tuesday, May 15 through Thursday, May 17–all at 7:30 p.m. If you’ve ever seen The Producers or laughed at any of Mel Brooks’ completely absurd but hilarious films, you shouldn’t miss this show!

Running until Saturday, May 12th, Syracuse University’s School of Visual and Performing Arts presents the iconic Shakespearean comedy As You Like It. The play is directed by SU Drama chair Ralph Zito and features SU Drama students in its roles. The play is also super affordable starting at just $16. It’s a way to support the future stars of theatre. For audiences it’s entertainment, but for drama students this is an opportunity to further hone their acting skills. If you love theatre you should definitely check it out!

Opening Wednesday, April 18th, Syracuse Stage presents another brilliant piece of theatre–this time around it’s Tarell Alvin McCraney’s The Brothers Size. The 2011-2012 season at Syracuse Stage has been a memorable one featuring The Turn of the Screw, Red, Caroline, or Change and more. The Brothers Size is the final play of the season and looks very promising from what I’ve read. The play is of quite recent history as well–first appearing back in 2007.

Starting Wednesday, February 1st Syracuse Stage is putting on the Tony Kushner play Caroline, or Change. It will run until Sunday, February 26th and promises to be a worthwhile show. Syracuse Stage provides excellent professional theater in CNY and each season’s selections seem to get better and better. It has been the premier profession theater in Syracuse since its 1974 founding and has put on well over 200 shows.

If you’re looking for a great theater production plan on seeing The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe presented by Syracuse Stage. I saw it years ago as a kid and I’ll always remember the experience.

Going on now until October 16th, don’t miss The Turn of the Screw at Syracuse Stage (Buy Tickets). The play is adapted from an 1898 Henry James novella of the same name. The novella is steeped in elements of the Gothic genre which can be seen in it’s fascination with old, mysterious buildings and supernatural themes. While we can’t strictly call it either a psychological thriller or ghost story it falls somewhere in between.
