Local App Feature: Farmshed CNY.
While I was shopping in my new favorite wine shop, Vinomania, the owner handed me a flyer for this great new iPhone app called Farmshed, which helps you search and browse local food producers in CNY and the Finger Lakes region. Using it right now I’ve been able to find local CSAs, farms, farmers markets, u-pick farms, wineries, restaurants and even produce stands.

My trips to the Skaneateles Farmer’s Market have been frequent of late and I had the opportunity to finally investigate a local “u-pick” farm called Strawberry Fields, which I highlighted in a previous article. Now I’m sure many have been to traditional pick-your-own-fill in the blank farms but I’m confident that you haven’t seen it like this.

Interested in buying your produce local and organic without the danger of being run down by a shopping cart? Then head out to the Skaneateles Farmer’s Market at Austin Park on Jordan Street. At first arrival, I was sort of shocked by how small the market was, about 10-15 tents sporting local produce, meat and cheese.
