Thursday Night Dubstep and DnB: UKF Tour Hits ‘Cuse!

Coming this Thursday, March 8th to The Westcott Theater is the UKF Spring U.S. Tour. If you’re not sure exactly what that is, well I’ll tell you. It represents one of the few authentic British dubstep concert tours to enter the States. While artists like Skrillex are defining a new niche of dubstep and even mainstream pop artists are dipping into the sound, dubstep was actually born in the UK.

Jimkata at The Westcott Theater: Only $10!

I’ve been posting quite a bit on my favorite place to be in ‘Cuse, known as the Westcott Theater. There have been some stunning shows in the last seven days (Above & Beyond and Crystal Method–went to both) and there’s yet another great show to check out on Wednesday, February 1st. This time it’s Jimkata, a band I’ve yet to see but one of which I hear rave reviews. They’re also from Ithaca, New York! It’s something different from the purely electronic music and DJs I’ve been pushing here.

Don’t Miss Steve Aoki.

There are so many awesome concerts coming up so I figured I’d highlight some of my picks. The Westcott Theater among others are setting the stage for some immensely famous acts. My main interest is electronic music so I’m sticking to that for now, and since Upstate New York is starting to seem like a destination for the genre why bother covering anything else? It’s also one of the most affordable places to catch shows. You won’t find anything much more than $55 (plus tax and fees of course). Unbeatable in my opinion.

Above & Beyond at The Westcott Theater.

In my opinion the concert season over the last few months has been pretty lax. For trance music fans there has been an absolute drought. The Westcott Theater does a great job of bringing big acts to ‘Cuse that would have otherwise passed us by. It’s just those long stretches after a big show that bore me. I get excited for a huge act and have way too much fun, but once you’re hooked even a few weeks without a light show and pounding bass can become rather tedious.

Infected Mushroom Invade The Westcott.

The most influential and arguably greatest electronic music group you’ve never heard of is set to tear the Westcott Theater apart on Thusday, November 17th. The Israeli pystrance duo Infected Mushroom brings it heavy, metal guitar driven militant bass to Syracuse once again for a show that you absolutely should experience. If you don’t know about Infected Mushroom, they are one of the original electronic groups who have dominated the psytrance genre for years–and for good reason-they invented it.

Agenda 10/27: Adult Swim Block Party

Many people have probably noticed the gated off streets and odd assortment of inflatables set up today in Armory Square. Some may be asking themselves, “whaaaat is this?” Well here’s your answer. Cartoon Network’s wildly popular late-night block of comically deranged shows called Adult Swim is hosting the Adult Swim Block Party. This year’s event has been touring 10 college towns, bringing live music, whacked-out carnival type games, prizes and booths representing a selection of Adult Swim’s lineup including Children’s Hospital and (my personal favorite) Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
