Recess Coffee House & Roastery, a very cool spot in ‘Cuse just off Westcott Street is on the brink of celebrating their 5th year in business and is throwing a huge, Alto Cinco-catered party featuring seven bands to mark the occasion. The event kicks off at 6:00 p.m. this Friday, December 23rd and won’t stop rocking until 1:00 a.m. Spark Contemporary Art Space and Badlands (1005-1007 Fayette Street) is hosting the party and based on the information I’ve already provided, sounds like one hell of a night.

Today (8/11) I was fortunate enough to be invited into the world of local coffee roaster Cosmo Fanizzi of West Roast. Cosmo hand-roasts coffee beans over open flame, a unique technique only practiced by a handful of roasters nationwide. A fellow blogger and I were taken through a caffeine binge like no other as we sampled fresh maple wood roasted Jamaican, Guatemalan, and Brazilian coffees as well as a potent blend known only as Hatsmasher.

One awesome thing about Syracuse is that the community is made up of many diverse cultures, which all contribute to the availability of great cuisine. One such discovery in Syracuse that I think many people miss is called New Century Vietnamese Restaurant, 518 Kirkpatrick Street 410-9999, and it is a Syracuse Guru favorite and maybe even the best in town.
