I’ve been stuck on concerts a bit lately but here’s something for the foodies. This event is somewhat similar to SavorSyracuse, which you can read about here, but coming up on Friday, May 18th at 6:00 p.m. the Wegman’s-hosted Taste of Success kicks off featuring over 125 international and New York State wines, the finest in craft beer as well as gourmet hors d’oeuvres selected and prepared by Wegmans Regional Executive Chef Bob Langkammerer and his team.

Chuck’s Cafe: A Guru Review

When I was a student at SU one of my favorite spots on campus was Chuck’s. Though my main experiences with the legendary SU Hill dive bar were limited to super-cheap pitchers and late night partying, I was always enticed by the sometimes overlooked menu above the small kitchen. Essentially a long list of American classics and the staples of drunk food, I never really went beyond the cheddar fries. It was the liquid diet I was more interested in, but this time I went for the food (and a pitcher to my surprise).

40 Below: New Year’s Eve Party with an Open Bar!

I’ll be compiling a bunch of fun ways to ring in the new year in Syracuse this New Year’s Eve but wanted to do a quick feature on one of the bigger, all-inclusive events. 40 Below, the local organization dedicated to keeping young professionals in Syracuse by promoting local business, providing networking opportunities, educating and hosting events is putting on the perfect (and affordable) New Year’s Eve party at The Landmark Theatre.

By now you all know that I love Kitty Hoyne’s so I just couldn’t help writing this quick feature. Known for excellent and authentic Irish fare and frequent specialty beer features, the downtown pub is hosting a 6-course dinner in celebration of this season’s arrival of Sierra Nevada’s Celebration Ale. It’s on Wednesday, December 7th starting at 6:30 p.m.

Post-Harvest Fest Thoughts

So this afternoon I had the opportunity to check out the Pride of New York Harvest Fest at the New York State Fairgrounds. My photographer and I spend a few hours wandering the immense Horticulture Building, eating and talking with local food vendors and business owners–we also walked away with some pretty serious loot. In my featured article about the Harvest Fest, I talked about the number of vendors but today I was completely overwhelmed with the vast selections.

Guru Find: Wolaver’s Organic Pumpkin Ale

Being ever vigilant in my search for new ways to consume alcohol, I discovered Wolaver’s Organic Pumpkin Ale ($9.99/six pack) at Wegman’s today. You may remember one of my early posts on another of Wolaver’s brews, but this one is way better and more importantly, brewed with Vermont pumpkins! Not only that, but the pumpkins are organically grown less than twenty miles from the Vermont brewery.
