Although I’ve never been to the Pride of New York Harvest Fest, it promises to be a great time for all CNY foodies and local food fans. This year you’ll get a chance to discover wines from over twenty New York State wineries and an even longer list of local foods. You’ll find salsa, beef jerky, pasta sauce, locally-roasted coffee, local cheeses, a ton of organic selections, sweets like cookies and fudge as well as many local staples. The list of vendors is really impressive and the event drew thousands of visitors last year. I say go check it out, there’s no way you’ll be disappointed given the huge list of local food.
Being a hardcore carnivore, one vendor of interest that I can’t wait to check out is Joe’s Jerky and Country Store of Sherrill, NY. Just poking around on their website reveals 30 years of jerky makin’ experience. They keep it simple and produce only three flavors (Original, Hot and Teriyaki), which ensures each one is great. I always say that simplicity is best, but I guess we’ll find out. I’ve not had any of their jerky yet but I’m sure I’ll end up with a bag (or 3). Assuming I think it’s something worth sharing, expect a feature on Joe’s Jerky brought to you by Syracuse Guru. You’ll also find Canale’s Sauce Co. (I love Canale’s!), Muesli Fusion, Beak & Skiff Apple Winery, (apple vodka!), the delicious artisan cheeses of Yancey’s Fancy and countless others. Full list here.
Pre-sale tickets are $20 and are $25 at the door. So what exactly are you getting for your money? Well for starters, it’s a chance to discover all the great local products New York State has to offer and with such a big list of vendors there’s no way you won’t find something new and delicious. It often surprises me how easy it is to forget about the local products, food or otherwise, that we have the good luck of having access to. Plenty of people love wine but for some reason still often miss the world-class stuff available so close to home. I guess it’s human nature to take things for granted, but I say fight the urge. There’s a whole wide world of excellent local food, it’s your decision if you open up to it. Of course, events like the Pride of New York Harvest Fest make the process simple. So grab your pre-sale tickets (a $5 discount) and plan for an awesome two-day food and wine sampling extravaganza. Don’t miss out!
