Dickens Christmas in Skaneateles

I’m not telling you anything new with this one but each weekend up until Christmas, Skaneateles is featuring the 19th Annual Dickens Christmas. Each weekend you have a chance to check it out between noon and 4:00 p.m. I suggest bringing the whole family out to the Village of Skaneateles sometime soon to enjoy this great yearly tradition. I recommend Saturdays since more stores and restaurants are open.

Each year during the holiday the Village of Skaneateles is invaded by a crew of live history actors who portray many of Dickens’ characters as well as Charles Dickens himself. Added to this cast, of course, is Santa among others. When I say “crew” I actually mean 50 actors. Characters like Ebenezer Scrooge, The Ghosts of Christmas Past/Present/Yet to Come, Mother Goose, Dickens, Bob Cratchit, and many more wander around spreading holiday cheer in the idyllic lakeside village. The entire cast is from Scarlett Rat Entertainment.

The costuming and acting is excellent and will definitely have young visitors spellbound. It’s really a nice way to spend a family afternoon and with so many local dining options in Skaneateles, very convenient as well. Might I recommend The Sherwood Inn? The drive may be long for some of you, but well worth it in my opinion.

I don’t have space to list the many events happening during Dickens Christmas for the remainder of December, so click here for in depth details via Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce. You can also click here to download the official calendar of events (PDF format).
