Just a quick post for my friends at Small Potatoes. On Wednesday, January 25th starting at 7:00 p.m. the third and final event in the CNYFood Speaker & Film Series, brought to you by Slow Food CNY, Small Potatoes Sales & Marketing and Red House. This event is free and open to the public. Anyone interested in local food, the producers or just the food system in general shouldn’t miss this final event. Each one features an expert speaker from the Syracuse food scene followed by a food-related film screening.
This time around there will be local food producers giving out samples for those of you who can make it by 5:00 p.m. And now the details.
For the final event the speaker is Heather Hawkins. You’ve probably heard her name before as she is well known for her commitment to food advocacy in the CNY region. For quite some time she has been involved in events and initiatives to promote awareness and interest in the Syracuse Valley community and is a member of the Skaneateles Area Arts Council and a founding member of SyracuseFirst. I’m certain she will make a great guest speaker, drawing from these and other past local food-related experience. Not to be missed. For more info about Heather, I invite you to check out Small Potatoes’ blog (since I may have just plagiarized).
The evening’s film will be the documentary called, No One Ever Went Hungry: Cajun Food Traditions Then & Now. The documentary provides an interesting perspective on how Cajun culture in Louisiana sustains itself through various traditions including food, family values and more. It delves into the amazing depth of food ingredients and dishes originating from Louisiana. As someone who hasn’t had the opportunity to travel to the Gulf, I’m expecting this film to be very interesting indeed. Best of all, you can watch it for free.
