Coming up this Saturday, October 19th from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. the very cool local pop-up market event known as Salt Market returns for the 5th consecutive year. The event brings together 40 artists and designers who will sell all kinds of art, various goods, and more. The event features items with a local flare and is a great opportunity to see how many great things are being made right here in Central New York. The market has some new vendors this time and also features Recess Coffee to supercharge your shopping experience as well as Roji Tea Lounge and vegan cuisine by the recent Best of Syracuse winner Strong Hearts. Cover is only $2 so why not give it a shot?
Maybe you’ve been to Pepper Market. Well this is put on by the same people (Stasya Erickson, Briana Kohlbrenner, Vanessa Rose, Courtney Rile) and is a very similar event. Part pop-up shop, part arts and crafts market, Salt Market injects a cool, trendy vibe into the standard concept while ensuring a community centric experience. A makeshift market space is created in a large warehouse space for one day at the end of which it disappears until next year. I like that both Salt and Pepper Markets succeed at changing up the local market while reaching people who might otherwise not be interested. Not only that but it’s literally a one-stop-shop to get an idea of just how many awesome items are being made in CNY. Not to mention a great place to get familiar with the area’s talented artists.
Whether you’re looking for a one-off original print, DIY wood carving, unique clothing, jewelry, or practically anything else, the Salt Market has you covered. And it barely requires a drive since it’s hosted at 499 Warren Street in Syracuse. I highly recommend putting this on your list. You’re guaranteed to find some cool, locally made stuff that you won’t likely find elsewhere. And it’s cheap!
