Downtown Living Tour 2013!

2

The Downtown Living Tour is back for 2013 and I suggest grabbing tickets now to save a couple bucks. It’s on Saturday, May 18th from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This year’s tour is a bit different than past events simply because so many new local developments occurred over the last year. New hotels, new offices, a huge number of new apartments and stunning lofts are just a few of the positive steps for the city. You’ve got an exciting new commercial spot being developed in the Pike Block and a 66 residential apartment space at Merchants Commons. These are just a few reasons to go on the Downtown Living Tour this year. Maybe you’re looking to move downtown or just interested in all these new developments; either way I recommend this event.

This year there are eight stops to the tour and the whole things kicks off at Pike Block. Pike Block is an exciting new project, which is starting off with a Tim Horton’s but will hopefully include some locally-owned stuff as it develops. It’s quite a project with 25,000 square feet of dedicated retail space and almost 80 residential units. There are plans for a secure courtyard and even a rooftop deck for tenants. Not only that, but a pedestrian walk-through that will connect Armory Square and Salina Street has also been announced. So far we’ve seen Tim Horton’s, Downtown Committee, and Centerstate CEO announced as the first few tenants. Any added connection between areas of downtown is a huge step forward in my book.

Another great development and tour stop is The Inns at Armory Square. Perhaps one of the biggest construction projects to hit the Armory in a very long time, the 180 room co-branded Marriott Courtyard Residence Inn represents a major investment in the community that will hopefully push more business into the surrounding areas. It’s a $30 million dollar project and this tour will give you a first look!

The other item I’d like to highlight is Syracuse Media Group’s new space in Merchants Commons. The new headquarters of The Post Standard and Syracuse.com is a 28,000 square foot ground level space aimed at completely reforming the old way this company used to do things. As everybody already knows, the traditional approach is going out and an “on-the-go” style will replace it. Whatever you think of that, it will still be very cool to check out the space.

Here’s the full list:

  • Tour Headquarters: The Pike Block, 300 South Salina Street
  • Dey’s Plaza, 401 South Salina Street
  • Loew’s Residential Suites, 108 West Jefferson Street
  • Jefferson Clinton Commons, 500 South Clinton Street
  • The Inns at Armory Square, 300 West Fayette Street
  • Merchants Commons, 220 South Warren Street
  • White Memorial Building, 100 East Washington Street
  • Vengeance Lofts, 233 North Clinton Street

Click here for full details on all the stops! I highly recommend going on this tour. It’s a really great way to get up to date on what’s really happening in the city while also scoping out some potential new digs. Even if you’re happily located in the ‘burbs it’s still worth your time and cash. Buy by the 16th and it’s just $12.
