Vinyl: Albums Live IV at the Palace Theatre

This Saturday, January 11th at 7:00 p.m. at the Palace Theatre the fourth Vinyl: Albums Live concert returns for 2014. Albums Live is a unique tribute concert event that assembles musicians from the best local bands into new groups that will perform famous, classic albums. It’s a cool event brought to you by our friends at The Rebel 105.9 and the lineup looks great this year. Members from bands like Los Blancos (Steven Winston), The Shakedown (Susan Royal) and seventeen other musicians make up the three special Albums Live groups. The interesting selection of music this year includes The Allman Brothers, Blind Faith, and The Black Crowes. I highly recommend it–tickets are only $20!

Vinyl: Albums Live may sound like some kind of national project but it’s actually 100% conceived and created in Syracuse. Local musicians Bob Kane and Robyn Stockdale started it and in January of 2010 debuted at Mac’s Bad Art Bar to a packed house. The first concert brought thirteen musicians together who performed two albums: Led Zeppelin’s IV and Tribute, an Ozzy Osbourne and Randy Rhodes album. Since then Albums Live began featuring three full albums in the hopes of restoring the complete listening experience–albums from start to finish. That reason alone makes it attractive considering the fragmented way music is often “consumed” in the 2000s. It also highlights some of the best classic rock and re-imagines it through modern performance. It even adds a local flare and emphasis on improvisation and collaboration.

So far Albums Live has performed a pretty solid list of hit records. The Who’s Who’s Next, Led Zeppelin’s IV, U2’s Achtung Baby, Alanis Morissette’s Jagged Little Pill, The Doors’ L.A. Woman, and Pearl Jam’s acclaimed album Ten, to be specific. For 2014 this list grows by three including The Black Crowes 1992 album, The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, Blind Faith’s 1969 self-titled album, and The Allman Brothers’ 1972 double album, Eat a Peach. That’s pretty diverse–sonically and historically–if you ask me.

7:00 p.m. – Doors open.
8:00 p.m. – Band one performs Eat a Peach.
9:20 p.m. – Band two performs Blind Faith.
10:30 p.m. – Band three performs The Southern Harmony and Musical Companion.
11:30 p.m. – “Band Remix” encore.

This is going to be the perfect event for rock, classic rock fans and local music lovers alike. Experience classic albums in one uninterrupted piece as they were meant to be! Vinyl: Albums Live is a top pick.

Thanks for the nice write up Mike. Putting this together has been challenging, but immensely fun. Can’t wait to do it on the big stage!
