As you already know, Syracuse had a visit from Guy Fieri and Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. While we’ve only seen Kitty Hoynes on the actual show, the “Triple D” team, along with Fieri, also visited several ‘Cuse establishments in search of great local food. I’m not going to go too in depth, but the top three include Syracuse Lebanese restaurant Byblos Mediterranean Cafe, Syracuse University favorite Funk ‘n Waffles, and Pastabilities in Armory Square.
Here’s the info you need, abbreviated for your convenience:
1. Byblos: In an episode titled “Authentic Eats” airing on December 10th at 10:00 p.m., Byblos Mediterranean Cafe is featured. Food Network calls Byblos, “The tiny Mediterranean cafe crankin’ out first-class falafel and baklava.” No word on whether Byblos is throwing any sort of celebration, but I’ll check in on that.
2. Pastabilities: In an episode titled “Fully Focused” airing on December 17th at 10:00 p.m., Pasta’s in Armory Square is one of three featured restaurants. According to Food Network: “This trip, Guy’s visiting restaurants with a definite direction. In Syracuse, N.Y., the longtime pasta institution makin’ a tomato sauce just for dipping, spicy chicken wiggies and duck and cheese pizza.” I really hope the ‘wiggies’ part is just a typo. Get to Pasta’s by 9:00 p.m. on the air date for their Food Network Party!
3. Funk ‘n Waffles: In an episode titled “Far Out” airing on December 24th at 10:00 p.m., Funk grabbed a feature spot. Via Food Network: “In Syracuse, N.Y., the basement joint rockin’ out waffles with their fried chicken, and with a full blown Thanksgiving dinner.” My friends at Funk are planning a screening in January, details TBA.
