Baltimore Woods Local Harvest Dinner

1

Coming up very soon at Baltimore Woods Nature Center is the 4th Annual Local Harvest Dinner. This cool local dining event is on Saturday, February 2nd and has two “grazing sessions”–one from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. and another from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. This is one of the few CNY dining events that truly celebrates the excellent produce, cheeses, and more that our region boasts. It’s only $35 per session and I say make a move and sign up before it sells out!

99% of dining events in Syracuse are pretty basic, but there are a few that go the extra mile. The Local Harvest Dinner falls under the latter category because it not only puts great food in front of you, but actually connects you with the local food producers. So instead of the status quo eating fest, the Harvest Dinner has various stations where you get to graze on gourmet food while chatting with the hardworking folks who farm it. In an era when the connection between actual farming and what we eat seems so abstract, this event demystifies and let’s us see the truth once more–that real effort is responsible for our abundance of food. And what better way to find this out than bringing local eaters together with local farmers? You just can’t beat it. Also keep in mind that this dinner is the main fundraiser for Baltimore Woods Nature Center–read more here.

Here’s how it works:
You can call (315) 673-1350 or email info@baltimorewoods.org to reserve a ticket, or register online. Either way, you must do so by Thursday, January 31st. As I said, there are two grazing sessions and each one is $35 for non-members. Members pay $20, join here.

Schedule is as follows:
Grazing session one: 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Grazing session two: 4:00 – 6:00 p.m.

There will be a bunch of stations serving only local food and just as last year, many many producers will be represented. The 2012 event featured around seventeen local producers and one info station (my friend Neil Miller’s Farmshed CNY). Ticket-holders will sample local veggies and produce, local meat, cheese, and much more. Many stations will be serving up unique, gourmet specialties and if last year’s menu is any indication, I think you’ll be very happy. And if one session isn’t enough, you can always sign up for both–all the funds directly support Baltimore Woods Nature Center!

Look for: LoFo’s station. LoFo is an excellent restaurant serving all local foods in Armory Square. It’s across from Urban Outfitters in the FORMER location of Om Boys.
