This may look like the same article as last week but it’s not. Don’t let the same featured image fool you, I just happen to like that one. Anyway, as you may know the small, local wine and spirits store, Vinomania, offers weekly wine tastings on Fridays. While last week’s event was a bit smaller and limited to wine, this week Vinomania is going all out. Together with two excellent CNY food companies, Vinomania will offer a wine and liquor tasting, chocolates, and even BBQ at a larger event this Friday, March 15th from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. (and potentially later). It’s worth a look, even if you’ve been before or already know why I like Vinomania so much.
Let’s say you don’t know Gary Decker and never made it to Syracuse’s quirkiest, best wine store. Well here’s what you need to know. Gary has a wealth of wine knowledge (and humor) collected over many years that he imparts to all visitors seeking that perfect bottle. I started out as a customer, heading in one day and getting one of my now favorite Malbecs under his advice. It’s one of the few places where you can just pop in, get authentic, insider direction on the often confusing world of wine and walk out with something you’ll love. That’s why Vinomania is high on my list. You don’t get that sort of service, but you absolutely won’t find Gary’s ever-changing, hand-picked selection anywhere else. Stop in. This is one great way to buy local. Vinomania also carries unique and rare liquors.
As far as this Friday’s tasting goes, it’s looking good. Gary will be featuring Lune Chocolat and for something completely different, Tom’s Bootleg BBQ Sauce. Obviously wine and chocolate go together but you might be surprised how well the flavors of BBQ explode when combined with just the right grape. Either way, you’ll find out on Friday. Lune Chocolat is a Manlius-based boutique chocolatier that brings an artist’s sensibility to the craft. If you’ve ever had any of their stuff or even seen a picture, you know what I’m talking about. It’s a great local business that helps maintain the role and status of craftspeople relevant in a changing economy. Tom’s Bootleg BBQ Sauce is a unique, higher end condiment and BBQ sauce that’s been around since 1997. It’s grown to popularity over the years and many cookout experts love it. While I’m not totally sure what sort of samples Tom has in store, you can bet they’ll be tasty. Leave it up to Gary to provide just the right wine to match it.
That’s all for me, plan to check out this very special Vinomania wine tasting Friday. It’s going to attract lots of interesting locals who love wine. Why not stop by? Happy hour never stood a chance.
