Clean Up ‘Cuse 2013!

The first day of spring came and went and even though it’s still freezing out and pretty gray, the nice weather is on it’s way! It’s around this time of year that the snow starts to recede. That may be a welcomed change for many, but it also reveals the sorry state of affairs when it comes to various garbage strewn about the city. Combined with the slushy, dark colored snow that seems to hang around for months, it makes one want to do something about it. While many just kind of ignore it, The City of Syracuse, in partnership with the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency and the United Way face the issue directly. The good news is that you can help! Grab some friends and join in with Clean Up ‘Cuse activities on Saturday, April 13th!

As you know, it’s not just downtown Syracuse that needs this important annual event. Luckily, Clean Up ‘Cuse covers ten neighborhoods including the Valley, Eastwood, Tipp Hill, Hawley Green, and more. I suggest getting together a bunch of friends and registering. This is a great opportunity to show your Syracuse pride! Volunteers will be given everything they need to help. You’ll get various cleanup supplies, light snacks, and an official Clean Up ‘Cuse t-shirt in exchange for your participation. At each location there will be one or two team leaders to coordinate efforts and make this thing a success. You might want to run around picking up every last piece of trash, but with all the cleanup that needs doing–it’s gotta be efficient! At each of the locations, you’ll find different sorts of tasks. For example, the Near Northside calls for weeding, mulching, and brush removal while Eastwood is primarily a litter cleanup operation. While every project area can use volunteers, it’s completely up to you to pick. More info here! Scroll down to see the full list compiled into one easy Guru guide.
