I’m a big fan of boxing. Something about the huge production of a match, combined with the excitement and pure skill of fighters makes it a great spectacle and technical sport. Anyway ESPN is bringing its Friday Night Fights series to the Turning Stone on Friday, January 25th at 7:30 p.m.! It’s happening in the the Turning Stone Event Center and starts at just $25.
Despite loving everything about boxing and the culture behind it, especially thanks to shows like HBO’s 24/7, I’ve never once been to a match. That’s one reason I’m excited for this late January fight. What makes it even cooler is that it will be on live on ESPN, which adds to the overall excitement. Whether you’re a boxing lover or just interested in checking out a match, you can’t miss this opportunity!
The main event is the North American Boxing Organization’s Middleweight Championship. It pairs up Sergiy Dzinziruk and Brian Vera in 12 rounds of fighting. The match co-features Tony Luis vs. Miguel Gonzalez.
Brian Vera is a 30 year old Mexican-American boxer from Fort Worth, Texas. He’s a talented, highly notable fighter whose career started back in 2004. You may recognize his name from the 2007 season of ESPN’s The Contender. He’s 6’0″ ft with a 74 inch reach. In a total of 27 fights, Vera’s record is 21-6-0 with 12 KOs.
Dzinziruk is a 36 year old boxer and former WBO Super Welterweight Champion. He’s a well-matched fighter to Vera with a few more years experience. Dzinziruk is also 6’0″ ft but has a 68″ reach. His record is an extremely impressive 37-1-1 with 24 KOs in 37 matches.
