Today a last minute tweet by @OnondagaCounty elicited a wave of buzz in the local community and on Friday night from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. you can enjoy an Everson Plaza hosted pop-up tailgating event for the Crunch game. As a big fan and proponent of the suddenly burgeoning Syracuse food truck culture (Street Eats, Stir Mobile, etc.), I can’t recommend this enough. Whether you’re heading to the game or not, you simply must be there!
In case you’ve been in hiding, the Crunch have been dominating the AHL’s Eastern Conference and are on the brink of entering the finals depending on the results of the next games against the Springfield Falcons on Friday, May 17th and Saturday, May 18th. There are many ways to support the Crunch (like buying a ticket!), but the way this entire pop-up event happened was by far the biggest surprise ever.
You’ll find the newest, coolest food truck by the name of Stir Mobile Eatery, another truck called Fresh Crepe, and last but not least Recess Mobile. Stir Mobile is a super cool truck serving a unique menu of gourmet items and features a homemade harissa sauce. Fresh Crepe opened a few weeks ago and serves a range of sweet and savory crepes. Recess Mobile, the wheeled version of Recess Coffee, is also on the list. They specialize in organic, fair trade coffee as well as vegan baked goods and more. If you’re not up on the influx of food trucks in Syracuse, this event will catch you up pretty damn quick.
It’s extremely cool (and actually somewhat weird) to see the official Twitter account of Onondaga County make this thing happen. It was 99% arranged through tweets and now three awesome local mobile food trucks are on board, as well as live music. The Everson Plaza will be a great spot for this event and I’m very happy and pretty pumped to see the community, local sports, local business, and local government converge and create something astounding.
This is the type of attitude that Syracuse needs on every level.
